Andrea Taylor
Andrea’s art is a reflection of her profound connection to the natural world, particularly the
landscapes of Georgian Bay and Muskoka. Through her work, she strives to convey the
beauty and importance of these landscapes, while also emphasizing the need for their
preservation. Andrea’s art manifests a nostalgic connection to land and objects
representing life in Canada. She is originally from Orillia and now calls Schomberg home
with her family and giant dog, Ember. Andrea is a visual art teacher at the Toronto District
School Board and enjoys teaching technique and the elements and principles of design to
the next generation of artists.
Exhibit Description:
Canadian Summer
“Canadian Summer” is more than just an exhibition; it is an invitation to embark on a
heartfelt exploration of the quintessential Canadian experience. Through a series of still life
and landscape paintings, I aim to transport viewers to a realm where time stands still, and
every brushstroke whispers tales of nostalgia, loss, and the inability to go back.
Each canvas in this collection serves as a poignant vignette, capturing the essence of
shared memories and cherished moments that define our collective summers. From the
innocent delight of a child’s first encounter with fireworks, nestled in the warmth of a parent’s
embrace, to the bittersweet allure of final sunsets bidding adieu to the season, “Canadian
Summer” celebrates the small moments that are strung together to create a life.
The paintings in this exhibit offer glimpses into scenes familiar to all Canadians—cold swims
in spring-fed lakes, the crackle of a campfire casting its glow upon faces illuminated by
laughter, and the tranquil beauty of a sun-kissed landscape dotted with hay bales and drifting
clouds. Each image is imbued with a sense of longing and belonging, inviting viewers to
immerse themselves in the evocative warmth of Canadian summers past and present.
Through “Canadian Summer,” I hope to create a space where visitors can pause, reflect,
and reconnect with the timeless beauty of fleeting moments. It is my sincere belief that this
exhibition will resonate deeply with audiences, fostering a sense of shared nostalgia and
appreciation for the profound beauty found in life’s most fleeting experiences. My collection
draws attention to the idea that the best things in life are short – but sweet; we must strike a
balance between letting go and hanging onto the moments and memories that shape our
lives.
